Recognition of prior learning

At North Regional TAFE, we recognise that people gain skills and knowledge in a variety of ways. Many highly skilled people have developed their abilities through pathways other than formal education, including paid employment, community work, volunteering and participating in informal training.

Skills developed this way are very valuable to employers and communities, however sometimes it can be difficult to demonstrate your skills to potential employers when you do not have qualifications on paper to show them.
Recognition of Prior Learning allows you to have your skills recognised in a nationally accredited system, which can boost your resume and open doors for new employment opportunities. You can also use your recognised skills as a pathway into further training, and perhaps even take a step towards a new career!

To have your skills recognised, an assessor will work with you to identify whether your skills meet industry standard, and if any further training is required. You may be able to get recognition for a part qualification, or a complete qualification.

Please contact North Regional TAFE on 1300 996 573 or email info@nrtafe.wa.edu.au to receive a self-assessment checklist, and arrange an appointment time to speak with a lecturer about your relevant skills and knowledge. You can prepare for your talk by gathering any documentary evidence you may have to support your claim, including job descriptions, records of employment, references from employers, and any other relevant details.
