The Chemical Handling Skill Set is crucial to a broad range of outside activities offered in horticulture, agriculture, and conservation and land management.

This course covers all of the important procedures required to apply chemicals safely on plants using small portable handheld sprayers.

Students will learn how to:

  • Identify the level of pest infestation and assess the need for chemical control
  • Source information on Integrated Pest Management
  • Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures
  • Select appropriate PPE for the chemical
  • Interpret chemical labels and SDSs
  • Calibrate equipment
  • Mix chemicals accurately and according to their registered use
  • Apply chemicals minimising spray drift
  • Transport and handle chemicals complying with legislative requirements
  • Store chemicals correctly and maintain inventory
  • Treat chemical spills
  • Dispose of any chemicals correctly and decontaminate equipment
  • Complete application records

Students studying in Broome: 

From March 2019, students studying in Broome will complete the theory component of the course online in their own time. The Diploma of Community Services provides participants with the skills to develop, implement and evaluate programs, secure and manage funding, case-manage clients in a community services setting, and lead a community services team. This course can be completed in three sections - program development, case management, and team leadership - and is an affordable entry pathway into tertiary study in an approved Social Work degree.

As part of this qualification, participants will undertake a supervised 100 hours of work placement in order to apply the skills and knowledge learnt. A federal police clearance and Working with Children Check are required prior to placement.

Participants will learn how to implement the National Quality Framework, National Regulations and National Quality Standards to support the education and care of children from birth to school age. Participants will develop skills in facilitating children’s play, cultural competence, and creating healthy and safe environments.

As part of this qualification, participants will undertake 120 hours of supervised work placement where they will be able to apply the skills and knowledge learned throughout the course. A federal police clearance and Working with Children Check are required prior to placement.

The Certificate III in Tourism provides a pathway to work in a range of tourism industry sectors as a tour guide, tourism services coordinator, booking agent, sales consultant and much more.  The majority of this course is self-paced via our online learning platform.

Students will work through the learning material and then complete the set tasks and activities outlined. Assessment is conducted by knowledge questions and practical tasks or projects. These may be assessed in the workplace or on campus through a real or simulated activity.

An essential part of this course is to undertake a work placement in the industry. If you are not already working in the industry, our lecturers can assist in finding you a work placement. The work placement chosen must meet the requirements of the course.

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment provides participants with the opportunity to work as a lecturer, trainer or mentor in their area of specialty. This qualification provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to facilitate learning and maintain and enhance professional practice through competency-based assessment in a range of settings.

Participants will learn how to design and develop learning programs and resources to support delivery. Participants will also learn how to plan and organise assessment, design and develop assessment tools and assess competency in a vocational, training and education environment.

Our blocks of delivery cover three areas:

  • Designing learning programs to deliver qualifications and/or units of competency
  • Delivering training to groups and individuals, supporting facilitation of learning, transfer of knowledge and learning needs
  • Assessment processes and tool design, validation of assessment tools, and conducting assessment.

Our delivery model supports participants to achieve the qualification while managing work and home commitments. Once qualified, participants will be able to confidently design, contextualise and facilitate training to suit organisational needs, while meeting industry and quality standards.

The TAE40116 is the current version and replaces the previous qualification coded TAE40110. We offer gap training if you already hold the TAE40110 but need to complete two additional units to meet 2015 Quality Standards for RTOs. Alternatively to update your qualification from TAE40110 to TAE40116 we offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or training to achieve the four additional units.

Please note: Participants are required to have vocational competency in an industry area prior to enrolling in this course.
