Are you interested in a career in the resource or civil construction industry? If you are a school leaver or have limited outdoor work experience, then this qualification could be for you. This course provides a range of skills suitable for working as an entry-level operator in an open cut coal or metalliferous mine or quarry.
You will learn how to operate and maintain a skid steer and four-wheel-drive, plan and prepare for work, undertake basic worksite tasks, identify worksite risks and hazards to ensure workplace health and safety and communicate within your team. This course will assist you with improving skills in the resource and civil construction industry.
Throughout this course, you will gain skills in:
- Planning work, breaking rock, sorting and categorising
- Operating and maintaining a 4WD and skid steer loader
- Basic levelling
- Hazard identification and risk control
- General health and safety on a worksite
- Workplace communication
- Sustainable work practices
- You are a school leaver or young adult with limited practical work experience
- You like to work outdoors
- You wish to improve your employability skills
This course is delivered in blocks of 1, 2, and 4 days depending on unit of competency.
You will attend each block for 7.5 hours per day, while also completing a range of prescribed activities and self-paced study.
This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.
