Work on some of the State’s biggest machinery and construction projects.
The North-West region of WA is a hive of activity for civil construction and mining workers, and this is your chance to join a thriving industry. Throughout this course, you will work with dozers, trucks and other plant to build new roads and bridges and key buildings within the region.
As part of this qualification, you will learn how to plan and organise specific work projects following worksite health and safety regulations. You will learn how to read and interpret plans and specifications, work at heights, operate a skid steer, excavator, front end loader and small plant and equipment. You will gain practical skills in hand and power tool operation and preparing, excavating, maintaining and disposing of waste on civil construction sites.
Throughout this course, you will gain skills in:
- Planning, communicating and organising work
- Reading and interpreting plans and specifications
- First Aid, worksite health and safety, hazard identification and risk management
- Working at heights
- Operating a skid steer, excavator and front end loader
- Using hand and power tools
- Preparing, excavating and maintaining civil construction sites
- Resource and infrastructure management
- You have an employer and seek to become a plant/machine operator through an apprenticeship
- You are an experienced machine operator who requires updating of skills and possible recognition of current competencies
This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills initiative, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession.
