Learn how to conserve our natural environment. 

Are you interested in working as a ranger or conservation officer in the conservation and ecosystem management industry? 

This course focuses on conservation techniques to maintain and promote the natural diversity of the land and ecosystem. You will have the option to focus on indigenous land management, conservation earthworks, lands, parks and wildlife, or natural area management. 

Throughout this course, you will learn how to conduct ecological and cultural site inspections, produce, read and interpret maps, respond to wildfires, apply and transport chemicals, operate a four-wheel-drive and undertake a range of repairs.

Throughout this course, you will gain skills in: 

  • Conducting ecological and cultural site inspections 
  • Producing basic maps and collecting spatial data 
  • Reading and interpreting maps 
  • Responding to and suppressing wildfires 
  • Application and transportation of chemicals 
  • Treating pest, disease and weeds 
  • Operating a 4WD in isolated locations and on unsealed roads 
  • Navigating remote or trackless situations 
  • Coordinating work site activities 
  • Implementing property repairs and construction
  • You are already employed in the Conservation and Ecosystem Management industry and wish to grow and develop your skills 
  • You seek a hands-on outdoors career 
  • You must already be employed in the Conservation and Ecosystem Management industry 
  • Hold a current Australian Driver’s Licence 
  • Reasonable physical ability to change 4WD tyres, perform minor vehicle maintenance and operate under exposure to extreme conditions such as heat from fire 
  • Have access to a 4WD for training purposes

This qualification prepares you for roles such as: 

  • Trainee ranger 
  • Conservation support officer
