This qualification is perfect for you if you want to be an automotive technician or light vehicle service mechanic.
Undertaken as part of an apprenticeship, you will gain skills and knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles including diagnosis and repair, braking systems, transmissions, servicing, suspension, and workplace safety and health.
This qualification develops existing workers and prepares new employees for work in the light vehicle servicing and repair industry.
Training is delivered in modern workshop facilities with industry standard tools and equipment, on actual vehicles.
This course is available at other campus locations upon request.
Throughout the course, you will gain skills in:
- Repair electrical circuits, charging and ignition systems
- Repair steering, hydraulic braking, suspension, cooling systems and engines in light vehicles
- Servicing operations
- Diagnostic test strategies
- Tyres and tubes repairs
- Wheel alignment
- Electrical wiring and circuits
- Workplace safety fundamentals
- Communication skills

This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills initiative, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. This qualification can only be obtained by fulfilling the obligations of an apprentice under a training contract, or a person seeking recognition of prior learning (RPL) under s60I of the VET Act.
