The Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) entitles certificate holders to:
- Act as Chief Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than 750 kW within the EEZ
- Act as Second Engineer on a vessel with propulsion power less than 1500 kW within the EEZ
This qualification is delivered in skill sets, enabling flexibility for students and the ability to articulate across qualifications.
To attain this qualification, participants will need to complete the following skill sets:
Participants will require the following text:
- Marine Auxiliary Equipment & System Operations (MED2): SLG ABF632
- Marine Diesel Engine Operation (MED2) SLG, ABF631
Coxswain AMPA
Upon completion of a maritime qualification, participants must complete an AMSA mandated practical assessment - Coxswain AMPA. The National Standard for Commercial Vessels Part D - Crew Competencies requires that a seafarer pass a final assessment prior to the issue of a certificate of competency.
