Carpentry and Joinery (Furniture Trades)

Acquire skills that enable you to specialise in both carpentry and joinery required to construct residential dwellings. You will also learn to use tools and equipment to install floors, walls, and roofs, and to construct and assemble windows, sashes, doors and stairs. Furniture making concentrates on the production of solid and free standing furniture, while cabinet making is the term given to flat panel construction of kitchen/bathroom furniture.

Build your future with a carpentry apprenticeship.

The Certificate III in Carpentry must be completed as part of an apprenticeship, and upon successful completion, allows participants to work as a qualified carpenter. Apprentices will learn through a combination of on-the-job training and block training at North Regional TAFE.

Throughout this course, participants will acquire skills that enable them to carry out a range of tasks required in the building and construction industry.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Use carpentry tools and equipment
  • Read and interpret plans
  • Carry out measurements
  • Carry out general demolition of minor structures
  • Install flooring systems
  • Construct wall and ceiling frames
  • Erect roof trusses and construct pitched roofs and eaves
  • Carry out simple concreting
  • Follow OH&S procedures and requirements
  • Work safely at heights
