NR TAFE’s hair and beauty salons in Broome and Karratha are equipped with all the tools students need to build practical skills in the hair or beauty industry. The refurbished training salons encompass modern hairdressing, beauty therapy, massage, spray tanning and manicure stations.

Our industry standard Health and Community Training Centre at Pundulmurra offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience in a simulated hospital wing. The facility encompasses a hospital ward, a nurses’ station, patient examination and treatment rooms, classrooms and a viewing area for lecturer observation of practical assessments.

Tap into your passion for fitness and the outdoors. Our qualifications in fitness and sport development can set you on a path to becoming a qualified personal trainer, sports coach, facility coordinator or manager.

The online COVID-19 Direct Care Skill Set is suitable for new and existing workers who need to upskill or undertake infectious disease training due to risks associated with their role. 

 

This course is suitable for:

  • at home carers

 

Please note:

  • To complete this course, it is not a prerequisite that you must be currently employed in Industry.  This COVID-19 Skill Set stands alone and can be completed separately if desired. However, students may be enrolled in either the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support and have a current work placement. Alternatively, students who are not enrolled in either qualification may be employed in an aged care or home and community care facility.  
  • There is practical assessment component to be completed in your workplace or placement, but this can be simulated if needed at NR TAFE – please talk with your local lecturer.
  • This skill set is self-paced, online  and completely flexible and all theory components are available online/can be completed in your own time outside of work hours.
  • Face-to-face delivery will be required for one of the three units in this skill set. The remaining two units are to be completed by the student online. Please contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.

Your health and safety is important to us.

Spaces are limited in face-to-face classes to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Additional hygiene protocols will be implemented and other controls may apply. Students must follow the directions of the lecturer to ensure the health and safety of all students and teaching staff.

Each year, one in five Australians experience a mental illness.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) provides participants with the skills to help those involved in a mental health crisis until it resolves or professional treatment is received. MHFA is an evidence-based training courses authored by MHFA Australia and delivered by an accredited NRT MHFA instructor.

The course covers recognition and response to the most common and subacute mental health disorders, including:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Psychosis
  • Suicidal tendencies
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Substance misuse

This course is designed for all members of the public aged 18 years and above. It is also suitable for health professionals, human resources staff, managers and others in frontline jobs.

Provide the right care to those in need.

The Diploma of Nursing provides participants with the practical skills and knowledge to work as an enrolled nurse. Upon successful completion, participants will have the skills to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing, and will be able to seek enrolled nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Participants will learn about:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Infection control
  • Nursing care of clients
  • Legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice
  • Health issues of Indigenous Australians
  • Nutritional and mental health care

Please note: Participants will need to complete a mandatory 440 hours of clinical placement, and attendance at two one-week blocks at Pundulmurra campus in South Hedland each semester. Clinical placements are required to be undertaken in Hedland/Karratha and in Perth, as part of the course.

Do you have an interest in beauty?

Join our upcoming course to learn how to complete waxing services and lash and brow treatments. You may choose to complete this course as the first stage towards a full beauty qualification

Throughout this course you will learn how to provide waxing services to your client including legs, bikini, underarm and facial waxing. You will also learn the skills required to shape eyebrows and tint eyelashes and brows to meet your clients wants and needs. 

You will also learn about sterilisation and applying and maintaining infection control standards within a salon environment.

Join us Mondays and Tuesdays 9.00am - 2.00pm beginning 24 August.
