Introduction to Computers Skill Set

This beginner level Skill Set has been designed to provide participants with knowledge of basic computer operations using the Microsoft Office Suite.

This course covers:

  • Activating a personal digital device and accessing features and software.
  • Navigating, organising and accessing digital file storage from the desktop.
  • Storing and modifying documents using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The use of safe work practices - Ergonomics – Seating, posture and risk management while operating a computer.
  • Keyboard skills – learning through repetitive practice, increasing accuracy and speed
  • Preparation, production and completion of a Word document:
    •     Creating, formatting and printing simple Word documents
    •     Understanding screens, menus and dialogue boxes
    •     Working with text and paragraphs
    •     Page layout and design features
    •     Working with tables
    •     Printing documents
    •     Accessing additional help and services

There will be some reading, writing, oral communication, navigation of the world of work, interaction with others and activities to support student learning leading up to assessment.
