NRT staff help to light the spark

Karratha student Isaiah Mahony will ring in the New Year as a qualified electrician, thanks to the joint efforts of the North Regional TAFE lecturing and Aboriginal Training Services (ATS) teams.

Isaiah commenced his electrical apprenticeship in Perth before transferring to Karratha, which resulted in databases registering varying apprenticeship completion dates for the student.

With the assistance of NRT staff James Dann and Gavin Parenzee, Isaiah was able to sit and successfully pass his Capstone Assessment last week, rather than having to wait an additional year.

“James and Gav really helped me, I was stuck in limbo with my paperwork and their assistance really got me over the line,” Isaiah said.

“Without that help, I would have had to wait another year to sit my Capstone and I have a young bub, so that really wouldn’t have gone too well.”

Now a qualified electrician, Isaiah will continue his employment with Matera Electrical, where he completed his apprenticeship.

“I would like to say a big thanks to Matera for picking me up halfway through my apprenticeship and giving me a chance to complete it, it means a lot.”

Isaiah is currently working at a gas plant in Dampier.
