Bidyadanga students celebrate graduation

As part of the federally funded RARAC Aged Care project to build capacity of local Aboriginal people to work in the Aged Care industry, North Regional TAFE partnered with Bidyadanga Aboriginal Corporation La Grange (BACLG) and Kullarri Regional Communities Indigenous Corporation (KRCI) to deliver Community Services training for nine Bidyadanga based students.

Two students, Faye Dean and Ryan Hammond completed a Certificate IV in Ageing Support with Lecturer Georgina Harris while employed at the BACLG Home and Community Care Centre in Bidyadanga. In addition the students completed a Certificate III in Individual Support with NRT last year. The remaining seven students completed the Certificate II Community Services with Lecturers Cobina Crawford Audrey Macalindon - with four of those students participating in Community Development Programs and referred from KRCI.

All students worked tirelessly to complete their qualifications, and several job-seekers are now being sought for Community Services roles on community. BACLG employees are now excitedly applying their knowledge and making their service delivery even better.

The students also raised a total of $450 from a fundraiser movie screening of Black Panther in partnership with Bidyadanga police officers. Students ran the event as part of an assessment for the unit 'work within a community development framework'. Congratulations to all graduates, training staff and those involved in the fundraiser!
