We are pleased to announce that the one-millionth barramundi fingerling will be released into Lake Kununurra as part of an ongoing restocking program this Sunday.
The fish release event – organised in partnership with the Lake Kununurra Barramundi Stocking Group (LKBSG) and Recfishwest - will take place near Lily Creek Lagoon from 10am.
Members of the community are encouraged to take part in this significant milestone and help personally release juvenile barramundi into the lake.
The juvenile barramundi, bred from Lower Ord barramundi broodstock, are hatched, reared and transported to the lake by staff from our Broome Aquaculture Centre with the assistance of the LKBSG.
The stocking program has seen 850,000 barramundi fingerlings already released into Lake Kununurra over the past eight years, with the vision to create a world class recreational fishery. The program will continue over the next three years following a commitment from the State Government through the COVID-19 recfishing recovery package.
