Kununurra Students Complete GATE Course and Give Back to the Community

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Nathan, Lane, and Farren have recently completed their course in 52875WA Gaining Access to Training and Employment (GATE Introductory) with us. In addition to the five core units of this course, these three diligent students also completed their First Aid training as well as their White Card certification.

Nathan, despite his hearing impairment, was the best reader in class, demonstrating excellent skimming and scanning skills while reading a variety of texts. Lane excelled during the Digital Literacy unit, where he drastically improved his typing skills in a very short period. Farren shone in the numeracy unit and was an outstanding team player, often assisting his peers with their tasks.

These amazing students also completed units that focused on organising basic work tasks on a construction site under the guidance of Craig Symonds. This hands-on training equipped them with valuable workplace skills, enhancing their readiness for employment.

As part of the course, the students designed and built a beautiful bench from scratch. The bench, crafted with precision and creativity, features a sturdy wooden design and was donated to the local company Wayfinder. This thoughtful gesture highlights the students’ practical skills and commitment to giving back to the community.

We are incredibly proud of Nathan, Lane, and Farren for their hard work and dedication, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve in their future endeavours!
