DRAWING WITH STITCH

State ID: CUA24

In this unit we explore how to use sewing machines, not to make garments, but to draw!

We will experiment with different techniques to create patterned surfaces on which to embellish with combinations of machine and hand stitching to create 2D works. We will touch on techniques such as simple torn paper silk screening & image transfers, as well as explore the use of traditional drawing mediums on to paper and fabric with a mixed media approach. This is a great unit in which to explore your mixed media vocabulary.

This unit does not require sewing machine experience and is a wonderful course to add to your 2D skill set and to create fabrics to incorporate into your 3D works.
