This qualification is perfect to advance your career and give you the skills and experience that employers are looking for as an apprentice automotive air conditioning technician. Automotive air conditioner technicians work in a range of fields including light vehicle, automotive electrical, heavy vehicle, mobile plant and equipment, and more.

Successful completion of this qualification will allow you to work effectively in the automotive industry. It will equip participants with the ability to perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business. Participants will learn how to test and repair basic electric circuits; diagnose, repair, retrofit and modify air conditioning and HVAC systems; carry out diagnostic procedures, as well as a range of other tasks.

Training is conducted in modern workshop facilities, where you'll get to learn on a range of different vehicles and systems. 

The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence - qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence).

Throughout this course, you will gain skills in:

  • Test and repair basic electrical circuits 
  • Service air conditioning and HVAC systems 
  • Diagnose and repair air conditioning and HVAC components 
  • Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies 
  • Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace 
  • Solder electrical wiring and circuits             
  • Carry out servicing operations                                                                   
  • Diagnose and repair cooling systems 
  • Inspect and service engines                                                                         
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace       
  • Carry out mechanical pre-repair operations 

You are an apprentice or technician in the workplace and would like the opportunity to develop and practice your skills in the workplace.

You enjoy mechanical tasks, troubleshooting and repairing and doing physically active work.

Half-price

This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills initiative, from 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. Students must be at least a Stage 3 Apprentice in the Automotive Mechanical Trade or a qualified mechanic in order to enrol in this qualification. 

Students are required to attend block training on campus.
