North Regional TAFE offers a suite of engineering courses to progress through, including qualifications that can be completed in conjunction with an apprenticeship.
We also offer an introduction into the mining industry with courses in resources and infrastructure operations.

The Certificate IV in Engineering (Instrumentation) has been specifically designed for any qualified tradesperson including unrestricted electricians, electrical fitters, engineers in the resource industry, refrigeration technicians, or for apprentices in their third or fourth year of study.
Learn to install, commission, calibrate and maintain modern instrumentation and control systems, as well as loop turning of multi controller or multi element systems.
Certificate IV
Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade

The Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade must be completed as part of an apprenticeship, and upon successful completion, allows participants to work as a qualified boilermaker or welder. Apprentices will learn through a combination of on-the-job learning and block training at North Regional TAFE.
Participants will learn how to perform some of the following tasks:
- Engineering measurements and computations
- Mechanical cutting
- Manual heating and thermal cutting
- Fabrication, forming, shaping and assembling of components
- Manual metal arc welding

Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrician

The Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrician must be completed as part of aof a four year indentured apprenticeship., and upon successful completion, allows participants to work as an industrial electrician, mining electrician or manufacturing electrician. Apprentices will learn through a combination of on-the-job employment and block training at North Regional TAFE.
Participants will learn how to perform some of the following tasks:
- Terminate and test electrical wiring
- Select appropriate cabling and circuit protection devices
- Install low voltage cabling and fit-off accessories
- Inspect, test and verify electrical installations
- Fault-find and troubleshoot
- Perform engineering measurements and computations
- Apply safety practices, procedures and compliance standards
- Solve problems in d.c. and low voltage a.c. circuits

Throughout this course, participants will be guided through the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of all mechanical equipment, machinery, fluid power systems, stationary and mobile equipment, instruments, refrigeration, and the use of computer controlled machine tools.

This entry-level qualification enables you to develop basic functional skills and knowledge to prepare for work in the resources and infrastructure industries.
You will learn how to plan and organise work in the industry, develop skills in workplace communication, gain an understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, and learn how to carry out basic on-the-job tasks. Throughout this course, you will complete a number of practical construction projects to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.
