This broad and exciting study area encompasses qualifications in beauty therapy, hairdressing, enrolled nursing, fitness and sport development
NR TAFE’s hair and beauty salons in Broome and Karratha are equipped with all the tools students need to build practical skills in the hair or beauty industry. The refurbished training salons encompass modern hairdressing, beauty therapy, massage, spray tanning and manicure stations.
Our industry standard Health and Community Training Centre at Pundulmurra offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience in a simulated hospital wing. The facility encompasses a hospital ward, a nurses’ station, patient examination and treatment rooms, classrooms and a viewing area for lecturer observation of practical assessments.
Tap into your passion for fitness and the outdoors. Our qualifications in fitness and sport development can set you on a path to becoming a qualified personal trainer, sports coach, facility coordinator or manager.

The Certificate III in Beauty Services guides participants through a range of beauty treatments and services, including waxing, nail care, lash and brow, and basic make-up services. This course has been specifically designed to develop participants' skills in customer service, product sales and financial transactions, allowing treatment to be applied in a professional manner.
Participants will learn how to perform a range of beauty services, including:
- Waxing

- Manicure and pedicures

- Brow treatments
Students will have the opportunity to develop more advanced skills of their choice through the selection of elective units.

Are you interested in working in the Beauty industry, working in a Beauty salon, Day Spa or have your own salon? Then this course can give you the skills you need!
Participants will learn how to perform a range of beauty services, including:
- Lash and brow treatments
- Manicures and pedicures
- Massage and facials
- Make-up
- Waxing
- Spray tanning
- Facials
There are also options of gaining further skills in areas such as ear piercing and eyelash extensions.
You will cover new areas of beauty therapy and gain hands on experience in a simulated work environment where you will perform simple tasks on real clients. Students will provide these services to paying customers as part of their experiences using North Regional TAFE's (NR TAFE) commercial salons on campus.
Participants who complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy will have the skills necessary to provide customers with a professional range of beauty treatments and services.

Entry into Care Roles Skill Set

Learn how to provide entry level support and basic client care for a range of roles within the aged care and disability support sectors!
The Entry into Care Roles Skill Set runs 3 days a week for 3 weeks. This course is suited for individuals who use introductory care practices to support fully qualified carers within an aged care or disability support environment. The support provided in client care will be predominantly non-direct.Â
You will learn how to:
- organise, provide and monitor support services for individuals
- develop safe work practices when providing direct client care
- understand compliance with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
- ensure health and safety and the safety of others in your work environment.
This Skill Set takes place 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) over the course of 3 weeks.Â
Time: 8:30am - 2:30pmÂ
Once you are enrolled your lecturer will be in contact with you prior to starting the scheduled course.

Learn how to provide first aid in emergency situations.
This two day course is offered to individuals who want to learn a vital set of lifesaving skills or may be required by their workplace to have First Aid skills in an emergency situation. This course is relevant to people working in various industries such as mine site workers, community service personnel, government and shire workers, or local community members.
Participants will learn how to:
- Manage an unconscious person and the recovery position
- Perform CPR in an emergency situation (adult and infant)
- Provide first aid for a range of conditions
- Respond to an unknown first aid incident

The Certificate III in Fitness provides participants with the skills to work as a fitness instructor, planning and conducting fitness programs and group exercise regimes. Participants will learn about the role of fitness instructors and gain an overview of work in the industry.

- Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific groups or individuals
- Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
- Provide health screening and fitness orientation

Ready to enter into a hairdressing career that's at the cutting-edge?
Become a qualified hairdresser, trained in practical skills to work one-on-on with clients, offering them quality service. You will receive hands-on experience at either our Karratha or Broome based salon where you will get the opportunity to work on real clients using advance equipment and tools. During this course, you will learn how to colour, cut, style, and provide hair treatments, in conjunction with offering customer service in client consultations, selling products and services, and making financial transactions.
Upon completion, students will possess a range of well-developed skills using discretion and judgement while being responsible for their own workload.

Every year one in five Australians experience a diagnosable mental illness.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) provides you the participant with the knowledge and skills to assist a person experiencing a mental health event, until it resolves or until professional help is engaged. MHFA is an evidence-based training course authored by MHFA Australia and delivered by our accredited NR TAFE MHFA instructors.
The 2-day course covers recognition, response and intervention to the most common mental health disorders, including:

•   Non-suicidal self-injury
•   Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

•   Substance use
•   Suicidal thoughts
This course is designed for all members of the public aged 18 years and above. It is also suitable for health professionals, front-line staff, human resources staff, team leaders and managers.
*Please note; Short Courses are non-accredited and result in a Certificate of Participation. A non-accredited training course does not count-towards a recognised qualification, but is specially designed to provide hands-on training in a new skill you can use in your personal or professional life, and is a great way to refresh your knowledge or give you a taste of a different industry.

The Diploma of Nursing provides you with the skills to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing. Upon successful completion, you are eligible to be registered as an enrolled nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.Â
Throughout this course, you will learn about anatomy and physiology, infection control, nursing care, nutritional and mental health care, health issues with a focus on Indigenous Australians, as well as the legal and ethical parameters of nursing.Â
