NR TAFE is committed to providing access to education and training across the North West.
A range of scholarships are available to assist current and prospective students with the cost of fees and study related expenses.
NR TAFE's Scholarship Program provides opportunities for Kimberley and Pilbara residents to progress their career aspirations in a range of eligible industry areas. Each Scholarship and Award has been designed to create opportunities for a better future through education and training, and are open to prospective students who can demonstrate educational disadvantage and financial hardship.

Destination Australia Scholarship
2021 applications are now open.
Destination Australia Scholarships are funded by the Commonwealth Government, and are designed to attract and support students who choose to live and study in a regional location. The scholarship provides students with the opportunity to undertake high quality education and training, and to experience life in regional and remote Australia.
Each scholarship provides $7,500 per semester, per student to assist with costs associated with relocating (if required), living and studying in regional Australia.

- CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services - Broome campus
- HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing - Pundulmurra (South Hedland) campus

Destination Australia Scholarship FAQs
For North Regional TAFE there are two scholarships available, one for students enrolling in the CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services at our Broome campus and one for students enrolling in the HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing at our Pundulmurra (South Hedland) campus.
Scholarships are granted - $7,500 per semester (6 months) that the student is studying and living in the regional area.
On confirmation of living in the regional area and enrolment at TAFE - EFT payment will be arranged (please note this could take up to 4 weeks). Then every 6 months while studying once re-enrolled in the next semester.
Students must complete an application form and complete an Applicant statement (more information on what to include can be found on the application form).

Applications open on Monday 24 May and close on Friday 2 July 2021.
North Regional TAFE Industry Scholarships support the tuition fees for one of any NR TAFE Industry qualifications. NR TAFE's Industry Scholarship Program provides opportunities for people living in the Kimberley and Pilbara region to progress their career aspirations through a range industry courses.
This scholarship intends to support opportunities for a better future through education and training, and are open to eligible applicants who can demonstrate educational disadvantage and financial hardship.
Value of Scholarship: Varies depending on selected qualification, $1,000.00 to $10,000.00*
Mary Mackillop Today First Nations Vocational Scholarship
Applications open on Monday 24 May and close on Friday 2 July 2021.
In 2021 North Regional TAFE and Mary Mackillop Today have partnered together to provide the Mary Mackillop Today First Nations Vocational Scholarship. This Scholarship aims to create opportunity across economic, social, political, physical wellbeing for those students affected by financial hardship, vulnerability and barriers to education.
Mary MacKillop believed in the power of education to transform lives. In her legacy the Sisters of Saint Joseph have continued to empower individuals and communities by providing access to education. Since 1998 these tertiary scholarships for the First Nation Peoples of the lands in which we live have addressed the financial barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and supported them to access and achieve their academic goals.
Value of Scholarship: $1,000 - $3,500*
Rio Tinto Leadership Award
Nominations open on Tuesday 12 October 2021.
North Regional TAFE and Rio Tinto are seeking nominations from suitable 2021 students that can demonstrate outstanding academic achievement or having overcome significant barriers to reach an academic goal.
The Rio Tinto Leadership Awards are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, aged 18 to 25 year old, who have been a NR TAFE student in 2021 and live in either Broome, Bidyadanga, Derby or Dampier Peninsula.
In 2021 the award recipients will be limited to one (1) Rio Tinto Aboriginal Student of the Year Award and twelve (12) Rio Tinto Study Recognition Awards.
- One (1) student will be recognized and awarded the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Student of the Year Award and receive $1,000
- Twelve (12) students will be recognized and awarded Rio Tinto Study Recognition Awards and receive $750 each. Study Recognition Awards will be allocated to 4 students in each of the three community zones – Broome/Bidyadanga, Derby and Dampier Peninsula
This award seeks to encourage students to strive to do their best and provides an opportunity for Rio Tinto to demonstrate ongoing commitment to Aboriginal training and employment in the West Kimberley region. Applications from all NR TAFE courses will be accepted, however, courses in the following training areas will be considered favourably:
- Mining, engineering, transport
- Management, business and computing
- Construction and rural industries
- Health, hospitality, education and community services
- Marine, applied and environmental science
GHD Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People Scholarship
2021 applications are now closed.
The GHD Scholarship is designed to encourage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to complete a qualification and pursue a career in the Mining and Resource Industry.
To be considered for the Scholarship, applicants must submit a nomination form and include a brief application letter. The GHD Scholarship is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, residents of Karratha and Minurmarghali Mia (Roebourne) and supports the student
with their tuition costs to the value of $2,000 for the following eligible courses:
- MEM10105 Certificate I in Engineering
- MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
- AHC10116 Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management
- AHC21016 Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management
- AHC31416 Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management
